Nepal’s Public Service Commission published written examination results on 18 August (2 Bhadau 2083 BS) for under-secretary (gazetted second class) or equivalent posts in two groups of the Nepal Judicial Service: the law group and the government attorney group. The names of those shortlisted for interview, and the interview schedule, appeared in the commission’s bulletin of 26 August (10 Bhadau).

Shortlists by advertisement

  • Judicial service, law group, under-secretary (advertisement no. 222/083-84): 7 candidates shortlisted for 2 open posts, 7 for 1 post reserved for women and 1 for 1 post reserved for Madhesi candidates. The same candidate may appear in more than one category.
  • Judicial service, government attorney group, under-secretary (advertisement no. 223/083-84): 11 candidates shortlisted for 2 open posts.

The written examinations for both groups were held in late Baisakh and early Jestha, and the results were published by the commission’s central office. Interviews were scheduled for 7 and 8 September (22–23 Bhadau) at the commission’s office in Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu.

Final recommendation

The commission makes its final recommendation in order of merit, combining marks from the written test, interview and any other assessment. We could not confirm whether the final recommendations for these two advertisements have been published. Candidates should check the commission’s website and weekly bulletin.

Why the PSC runs these exams

Under Article 154 of the Constitution, appointments, transfers and promotions to gazetted judicial service posts are made by the Government of Nepal in consultation with the Judicial Service Commission. Permanent appointments by open competition from outside the service, however, and promotions from non-gazetted to gazetted posts, require the Public Service Commission’s recommendation. That is why it holds open examinations for posts such as under-secretary. Officers selected for the government attorney group are posted to the Office of the Attorney General and the government attorney offices under it.
