Editorial policy

Nyayapalika is a digital publication of news and information on law and justice. Everything we publish follows the standards below.

Accuracy and verification

We report from court judgments, orders, official notices and first-hand sources, and read the original document wherever possible. Important facts are checked against at least two reliable sources. Anything we cannot confirm is either left out or clearly described as unconfirmed. Our full process is set out in the sources and fact-checking policy.

Transparency about sources

Each news article ends with the sources used and links to the original documents. Primary sources (judgments, orders, government notices) are listed separately from other outlets’ reporting. We never present another publication’s reporting as our own.

Fair reporting

Where possible we include the positions of every party to a case or dispute. When an article carries a serious allegation against someone, we try to obtain the response of that person or body.

Separating allegations from findings

We keep allegations, claims, court observations, interim orders and final judgments distinct. A charge sheet is not a conviction. A pending case is never reported as decided, and we note when an appeal is possible.

Responsible court reporting

We do not report in a way that undermines the dignity of the court or the fairness of a pending case. We do not publish names, photographs or identifying details of survivors of sexual violence, of children, or of anyone whose identity the law protects. Proceedings held in closed court are reported only as far as the law allows.

Opinion and news

Opinion, analysis and editorials are published separately from news. Views in signed articles are those of their authors.

Conflicts of interest

If a writer or editor has a personal, professional or financial connection to a story, they stay out of editorial decisions on it. When the author of an opinion piece is a party or counsel in a case they write about, we disclose it.

Corrections and updates

When we find an error we correct it and note significant corrections in the article. The process is set out in our corrections policy.

Images and credit

We check image licences and credit the photographer or source. Images that illustrate a topic rather than the specific event are labelled as representative. We never use synthetic images that could be mistaken for real people or events.
